Privacy Policy for Shortcut Chat

Last updated: June 2, 2026

Shortcut Chat is a browser sidebar for chatting with AI about the page you are viewing.

Summary

We do not operate any servers. We do not collect, store, or sell your data. Everything stays on your device unless you send a message to an AI provider to get a reply.

We do not use analytics, ads, or user accounts.

What stays on your device

The Extension saves the following locally in your browser:

  • Chat history and conversation titles
  • Page linked to a message (for context)
  • Custom prompt shortcuts
  • Optional Gemini API key and model preference

You can delete conversations or remove your API key anytime in the Extension. Uninstalling removes all local data.

Page content

When you send a message, the Extension reads the page so the AI can answer questions about what you are reading. This happens only when you send a message, not in the background. We never receive this data.

AI providers

Replies are generated by sending your messages (and relevant page context) directly from your browser to an AI provider. We are not in the middle of that connection.

  • Gemini API (optional): If you add an API key, requests go directly to Google using your key. Your key stays in local storage on your device. .
  • Chrome built-in AI (Gemini Nano): If available and no API key is set, processing may happen entirely on your device.

We do not sell or share your data with anyone else.

Changes
